Previous value of macro / alert variable

I thought I remember reading that there was a way to bring up the previous value of a macro. Example if you bring up the value of the IOS version then you can also use a modifier like 'previous' to display the old value of that macro. I did a search on the documentation and this newsgroup but maybe I'm not using the right keyword terms. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Alert variable modifiers can be used with the basic alert engine. The list of modifiers (4) can be found in the Orion Administrator Guide:

Note: Click the top left button after the page loads if you want to display the Contents.

Here's an example of the '-Previous' modifier:
Interface ${FullName} has changed from ${Status-Previous} to ${Status}.

In what variable does the '-Cooked' work? I've attempted to use it to display current interface bandwidth, but it doesn't work:

Current RX traffic is ${Interfaces.InBps-Cooked} BITS per second
Current TX traffic is ${Interfaces.OutBps-Cooked} BITS per second

I've tried with and without the "Interfaces" table definition.

EDIT: GRRR...nevermind. Basic alert engine only. <sigh>

Hi,

I am trying to accomplish the same with advanced Alert.

I have an Advanced Alert Monitoring A node's administrative changes as in the Alert titled Node Update is Fired when one of the following conditions is met.

Node is rebooted

Node's IOS Version is changed

Node Name/Contact/ or Location is updated or changed

IP address monitored is changed to an Alias.

Now I am trying to set the Email Subject/ Header contain a note stating what was updated

"Informational Alert - Node Update: Node Name - Property that triggered the Alert"

The Body Provides a list of all the node Details, but the First line should Look like

${Property} On The ${NodeName} has been updated From OLD Value To NEW Value .

Any Help will be greatly Appreciated.

You've got a couple of issues here. Alerts won't forward the alert condition that triggered it. Your alert message could possibly get long and ugly depending on the complexity of the alert triggers if it did.

As bleearg13 has discovered, variable modifiers (such as the -previous modifier) only work in basic alerts. As far as I know, they are still not supported in advanced alerts.
