AIX APM Template

Hello,

I am trying to get the AIX APM template working in our envrionment and have a few questions. 1 being...is there any workaround for the root user requirement? We're somewhat hesitant to create another "generic" root user on the system if it is at all avoidable.

2ndly, if not...does anyone have any suggestions to limit the access that this root account has? I realise root is super user....but again the concern is this being a generic account with full system privledges. Any advice or suggestions anyone can provide on how they used this template would be great.

Because the commands that the AIX template uses to collect information require root access on the system by default, your easiest options are threefold.

Make the user account assigned to the application template a root level user on the monitored AIX server
Change the permissions on the file system for the commands used by the application template so non-admin users can run these commands (chmod)
Limit the root user account in option #1 from SSH'ing into the AIX server from the IP address of the Orion server.

We found and corrected the issue...we needed to allow the login multiple concurrent sessions. Now all but 2 counters are working. We are now getting unexpected results on the 2 counters shown below:

What version of AIX are you running?

Can you run these component monitor script from the template in an SSH session and post the full message error returned by the operating system?

Just wanted to post a quick update that we got this working. Our AIX admin did some tweaking to the scripts (he mentieond something about changing sar 1 5 to sar 1 15 due to a minor difference between the linux and aix versions (and the way our envrionment is configured) and now the counters are working.
