Transitioning from single NPM to EOC

I am about to transition from a single NPM server to two seperate NPM servers and the EOC. I was wondering what would be the best setup, in terms of server allocation, to install these new servers. We also have NTA for each company(two separate companies) and a single NCM server.

My idea was to have a single server for the NPM and NTA for each company, and then a 3rd server for the EOC and NCM. Any thoughts, suggestions to this idea?

Your config looks good to me. The only thing to watch out for is scheduling too many NCM tasks while EOC is doing a nightly copy. However, that is not likely to be an issue until you start polling many more NPMs.

Just to follow up, it doesn't look like my original plan would work. According to the EOC admin guide, you can't add NCM integration directly to EOC, it must be added to an NPM server which is then added to EOC.

So it looks like my server setup might be:

1. Company A - NPM/NCM/NTA

2. Company B - NPM/NTA

3. EOC Server

Ah. I thought you were talking about installing NCM to the server, not just the integration piece.

Keep in mind that Orion NPM, Orion NCM, and Orion EOC are each their own, self-contained product, and each has its own separate database and web site.

Your first plan, which was:

Server A - NPM/NTA
Server B - NPM/NTA
Server C - EOC/NCM

is still viable, but with these important notes:

a. Server C will be running two separate web sites for EOC and NCM on different port numbers. You might configure Orion EOC's web site to run from port 80, and the Orion NCM web site on port 8888.

b. You are absolutely correct that Orion EOC can't get data directly from Orion NCM. So to see Orion NCM data in Orion EOC, you will have to pick either the Orion NPM on Server A or Server B and install the NCM integration component on it. I realize it seems a bit wasteful that Orion EOC on Server C has to talk to Orion NPM on server A or B to learn about something that's running on a different part of Server C.

In short, it doesn't really matter what server is running Orion NCM, as long as you install the Orion NCM Integration component on one of your Orion NPM servers, and correctly configure it to point to the Orion NCM server.
