Log to an SQL Instance

Hello everyone,

 

The Kiwi Syslog server allows logging to SQL Server and it works with my architecture but I have a little question for you:

Does it work with an SQL Instance with the servername\instancename form?

I try to put this form in the "Log to database" options (Data Link Properties) to log to SQL and it never found the SQL Server.
The servername form works.

 

Does the syslog server is compatible with SQL instance?

Hi Bcolin,

When you open the Data Link Properties (a Microsoft application), click the "Provider" tab and make sure to select one of the following providers:

• Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
• SQL Server Native Client 10.0
• SQL Native Client

At that point, click Next.

On the "Connection" tab, pull down the "Select or enter a server name:" list and see if your SQL instance appears.  If it does not, try entering it manually as "servername\instancename".

Select the needed authentication type and enter the username and password as needed.

Click "Test Connection".

If this succeeds, select the database you wish to use and click OK.

If this fails, I would have to suggest that you try connecting to the SQL server instance using the same parameters, however, via the SQL Server Managment Studio and see if that works.  In order to accomplish this, I recommend installing the SQL Server Client Tools on the Kiwi Syslog Server.  Not only will this allow you to test the connection using the Management Studio from this system, but it will also allow you to create an Alias to the named instance, which might help.
