I was asked the other day "Why is Thwack called *Thwack*?"
I told them, it just is, now go away!
Seriously, anyone know the answer?
This article I wrote a while back explains just that!
"Thwack is the sound a cartoon character would make if he were to slap his forehead as if to say, "Now I get it! Problem solved!" (Similar to the "Blamo!" that would splash on the TV when Batman hit The Joker on the original Batman TV series, circa 1970.)"
My theory is this.....
We come here to ask questions and exchange ideas.
"Thwack" is the collective sounds of open palms slapping foreheads when we all say "of course, why didn't I think of that!"
Or the sound of foreheads hitting desks...
It's an acronym.
OK, share the rest of your thought ...
I'm working on it....
you are correct
sorry, you are incorrect, thanks for playing.
I wanted to see if anyone would come up with something good!
I guess you deserved the "Correct Answer" reward.
When I was a young boy, thwack'ing was when your older brother used his thumb against his middle finger like he was flicking something away and snapped you really hard in the head! (We were weird kids!)

Thwack - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Online Etymology Dictionary
To me, it's an onomatopoeic word (a word that sounds like an action) for the swooping sound of a stick that suddenly stops when it hits something. So, metaphorically, our conversations are the swooping sound, which ceases with the final solution to a problem.

Black Thwack - (T)echnical (H)ackers (W)ith (A)ll (C)riminal (K)nowledge
Closely related to Black Hat but from the darker side of network management with pastimes such as sniffing snmpv1 RW strings etc.
I don't know why but when I hear (or say) the word Thwack, I get flashbacks of Daffy Duck.

Lol I love it everything this thread get's necro'd!
every time not everything and how come edit doesn't work on these threads????
I believe thwack was really chosen because it has no anagrams and cannot be re-engineered into NSFW catchphrases.
Did you just throw down a challenge for the best NSFW catchphrase for Thwack ?

I would never do such a thing! Well, hardly ever.

off the top I can only think of things that are offensive red necks, but then again; I'm not offended by them.
OK, I think it was because it's used in comic books for the sound of a superhero bringing justice to evil, possibly bug-like, villains:

Either that, or an oblique reference to Devo's Whip It Good.
Devo- Whip It Lyrics - YouTube
Which according to Wikipedia is actually a reference to Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow, and " The lyrics evoke a working class desire to pull oneself up and to overcome adversity."
Whip It (Devo song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
But the song does not use the word Thwack. It's in the mind of the beholder ... uh ... thwacker.
Great thread and responses from everyone!
I thought T.H.W.A.C.K meant the ability to make some sort of "Technical Head Way And Common Knowledge" discovery pertaining to troubleshooting and problem solving efforts.
When you write it like that I fully expect to see soon-to-be-produced episodes of...
Agents of T.H.W.A.C.K
In my mind I always read that as " THE WACK"!!!
