How can I monitor the temp of a device?

Hello,

I am trying to get the temp of a device using WMI via APM. I'm using the Eval version with our Orion 9.1 SP5.

I have been kindly given the MS link to the temp counters http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394493(VS.85).aspx but really don't know where to start on this.

I have followed the APM WMI troubleshooting guide to test that WMI works and it looks ok.

How can I use Win32_TemperatureProbe?

Hi,

First I would check the battery information is populated in this WMI Class.

You can use WMI Explorer to do this.

The CIM_NumericSensor class could host this data too.

Once you found which information you want to poll in one of the class, create a template and add either a Windows Script Monitor or a Windows Performance Counter Monitor.

If the result does not need any computing, use the Windows Performance Counter Monitor.

If it requires few steps to provide a meaningful information, use the Windows Script Monitor (ex of a script there)

WMI Explorer can help you to build your WQL query to be used in the Windows Performance Counter Monitor.

I have downloaded WMI Explorer and selected CIM_NumericSensor, but it does return anything.

What about Win32_TemperatureProbe ?

If that does not return anything either, you might want to ask to microsoft how to populate the temperature in these WMI Class.

The manufacturer could be of some help too.

Hi Yann,

Yeah I have tried both, but nothing shows up, but does for other classes. All I am doing is selecting the host and Name Space as Root\CIM2 and then just selecting Win32_TemperatureProbeand seeing the if the instances box returns anything - is this the right method?

As for Manufacturer, do I just need to find out the motherboards manufacturer?
