What other platform options do I have for NCM?

In short...

1. Can Solarwinds NCM be installed on the Linux OS?

If not.

2. Can Solarwinds NCM be installed to use Apache web server and the MySQL database?

I have opened a case already to request assistance with the constant Internal Server Error 500 I am getting in IIS.

I just wanted to post these questions here simultaneously to see if any one else has come across the same issues.

Hi Jeff,

1. No NCM cannot be run on the Linux OS. It runs on a windows server

2. No. You are not able to run on Apache and Mysql. NCM requires IIS and Microsoft SQL.

As for the 500 error Try running the Configuration wizard again.

I guess I just can't believe that so many company's are still only supporting Windows. In my opinion, derived from years of experience, Windows itself uses to many resources just for the Operating System, and doesn't really leave a lot of room for additional services like IIS or MSSQL. Windows just is not powerful enough to host a Solarwinds that supports multiple /16 subnets that have 5000+ nodes on each subnet.

Not sure where to go from here...Love Solarwinds, but hate the platform.

Edit: Are there any tools I can use to condition the server that Solarwinds is running on? Removal of unnecessary services etc.

Jeff,

I understand your concern. However it would cost a lot to maintain versions for so different platforms (Windows, Linux) and this requirement is not very frequent.

Jeff posted this question over three years ago (8/10/2012), have other OS platforms been developed for NPM / NCM etc.?

Also, I was under the impression MySQL was a viable alternative, is this not the case?
