EOC Database moved to new Server

Today we moved our EOC database from an existing 32bit (Windows/SQL) server to a 64bit (Windows/SQL) server. To move the DB, I shutdown the services then had the DBA's move the database. Once it was finished (we moved NPM and NCM at the same time) I ran the configuration wizard and selected Databse. The config wizard ran normally. All the services started normally but when I tried to login, it said I had no views configured. I re-ran the config wizard and selected all the options. I selected the default account for the server as the admin account. I got the same message when I tried to login. I went on the server and logged in there and all the data was present as before. I went to look at the users configured and only one account existed. I opened the account table in the DB and all the accounts are listed. Any idea on what is going on?

I also installed SP2 to see if that would help but it didn't...

There is a file that the web server uses that is stored externally that you can copy over from your first server. This file contains the information about EOC users and roles. This file can be found in Website\App_Data. The name of the file follows the naming convention of “Az_{db host}_{db name}.xml”. {db host} and {db name} should be the same as entered in the configuration wizard.

You can copy the file from the first server to the new server and rename it accordingly to match. Since you already ran the config wizard, you should have an existing file which you can just replace.

Note, that if you were using Local Users and not domain users, then the original settings won't work because the SIDs that are used to track users will be different.

Awesome, that worked great! We didn't move EOC to a new server, we just changed the database backend.

Another question, if we were to reinstall, would we need to copy that file over to get the settings back? Our Server Group Manager is looking at moving our NPM, EOC, and NCM install to 64bit as a test case. (We would keep the name and ip address the same.)

Yes you will need to copy that file over. Also if you are reinstalling on a brand new machine, you will need to copy a certificate from the original machine.

The “SolarWinds EOC” certificate is used by EOC to encrypt sensitive data in the database. The certificate can be found through the “Certificate” mmc snap-in. It will be under “Local Computer” in the “Personal” group.

You can export that and save it some where safe. When you reinstall on the new machine, you should imprt that certificate into the “My Computer/Personal” store.

We will try to make this process easier in the future so that you don't have to do all these steps manually.

This is a little off subject from the title, but since doing all this and installing SP2 I've noticed some strange things.

The nodes are no longer listed in alphabetical order.
When I edit the views, there is what looks like it should be a link: ShowSQL Filter Examples but there is no link.
I tried using the Status<>1 for a SQL Filter but it didn't list anything when I went back to the page. It works fine on the NPM server.
