What does it mean that a "Network Service Account" is now supported in 10.1.308? Is this an AD Managed Service Account or a Group Managed Service Account?
"Out of the box ability to monitor SQL Server Databases using a Network Service Account."
No response on this? What good is a new feature if no one explains what it is? I can't find it in the administrator guide either.
This post must have slipped past me... Sorry about the delayed reply.
Here is an article that explains how to set it up. As to why you would do this, it's so that user accounts don't have to be used and no PW changes have to be maintained.
This can make administration of monitored instances easier in large environments. Much more info on NSA accounts available on Microsoft's sites...
SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Register SQL Server instances as monitored databases using a Windows Computer Account
Thanks a lot. Do you know if Active Directory Managed Service Accounts or Group Managed Service Accounts can be used?
Unsure. You could try configuring monitoring using a managed service account that has the correct monitoring privs in the SQL instance in question. However, the managed accounts seem like they'd be more limiting as they can't be shared across multiple hosts? I may have misinterpreted what I read on MSDN... Has anyone in the community tried monitoring using a managed service account?
