Question on "All Nodes - Tree (AJAX)"

"Service Pack 3 includes a new web resource named "All Nodes - Tree (AJAX)". This is an incrementally loaded version of the "All Nodes - Tree" resource that appears on the Network Summary Home view by default. This new AJAX resource should perform better when monitoring a larger number of nodes."

I don't believe I am taking advantage of this update as I have at least one node grouping that has a lot more than 100 nodes in it and it is loading the entire list.

After the SP3 Update, upon running the Web Config Wiz I told it to use the existing web site so as not to lose all the customization I've done. Is this possibly why?

How can I verify I'm using the updated All Nodes - Tree? Can I just replace the one file in the web folder?

The new resource must be manually added. If you go to Admin->Manage Views and Edit one of the views, you should be able to add the new resource by expanding "Node Lists - All Nodes and Grouped Node Lists" and then selecting "All Nodes-Tree (AJAX)". Then just remove the old node list you had in that view.

So, did you lose your web customizations? I assume you will lose them anytime you run the config wizard for the web component. This is something that worries me about installing a SP.

I have not lost my web customizations although I don't have the All Nodes - Tree (AJAX) available from the Node Lists; although I also have a separate web server. Something similar occurred when I installed the original Application Monitor and had to create the folders on the extra web server. Why doesn't SP3 (or module installation) take into account the separate web server function? How can we install the AJAX portion on the web server?

No worries about that. When you do run the Config Wizard and you get to the web component just choose to use the existing web site - you will still have any customizations you had. I have gone with each update shortly after they have come out (waiting for others to verify them first) and have never had any issues.

Just a warning to others... Applying SP3 and subsequently running the Config Wizard which runs automatically as part of the SP install WILL overwrite any of the web resources that come with the product and have been subsequently modified. This is what I expected, and I always have a backup copy of our customizations, so it wasn't really an issue, so always be sure you have a backup. It doesn't effect customizations made through the web admin GUI, as those are saved in the SQL db, but if you've modified any of the web resources that come with the product, they will get overwritten. Resources you have created from scratch should still be there, but keep a copy anyway...
