I have set up my SMTP settings and am able to get Event emails using the test button, but attempts to send out File Sharing emails fails. I'm unsure where to look next.

The SMTP settings can be configured at the server or domain levels. Another area to look is on the "File Sharing" tab under the "Domain or Servers - Limits and Settings" section. If SMTP settings are not setup, then an informational message is displayed at the bottom with a direct link to configure it.
Other things to look at: a) when the the file share was created, was it configured to NOT dispatch any emails?, b) is there a possibility that the emails are treated as "junk-mail"?.
Thank you for your help. I checked all of those settings and they appear correct. For fun I tested by sending to a Yahoo account instead of my internal organizational email and the email arrives. I wonder why an event comes through to my organization's email, but not a file share request. I checked my spam folder and it is not there.
To make things even more interesting. I tested sending another File Share again by clicking on the link that allows you to spawn your email client and insert the link there. Those deliver fine.
Have you checked the domain log after attempting to send a file share invitation? There should be an error message in there that will contain the failure response from the mail server (if one was received). It should start with something like "Unable to send message to". You'll need to have logging for "System Messages" enabled to see it (these are enabled by default).
I did look at the logs and it would appear that emails are being handed off sucessfully. I have a hunch that our Barracuda appliance may be rejecting our inhouse mail possibly because of the long URL in the content. It can deliver to Yahoo just fine.
I have opened a ticket with our LAN group and asked them to check this. I will report back when I resolve it.
Well, it turns out that our Barracuda Spam filter was blocking the emails becasue of the long URL in them. My LAN team created an exception and things are working now. Thanks so much for your help.
