alert engine on additional boxes - still should be disabled?

wondering with all of the upgrades and differences, does the alerting engine still only need to run on the main NPM box?

I've put syslogging on an additional poller....haven't seen alerts I expected to see. I am unable to start the service for alerting engine...

One Alerting Engine per environment so it should only be running on Primary server. You will not be able to start the Alerting Engine service on Additional poller since its running on Primary server. In order to get the Alerts from Syslog you need to send your Syslog to Primary Poller.

The rules configured in Syslog Viewer and need Alerting Engine running to trigger on the same server .

My primary poller can't seem to keep up with it. It doesn't appear to be a resources thing either. CPU/MEM/DISK is fine...

We have most of the additional modules and they HAVE to run on the main NPM. I was trying to off-load.

SW? is that the case?

Can you please explain a little bit more ? What service is causing issues on Primary server ?

what version you have currently installed and modules / server hardware . largest table ?

I'm running 10.1.1 sp1.

Basically, if I start syslog service in Orion and point my main firewall to it, my Orion infrastructure suffers. I'll start getting missed polls, web response time goes up even though no one is hitting the primary NPM web and it is not polling ANYTHING. I have 2 addt'l web servers that are load balanced.

I saw in another post that someone (Guru maybe) put it on an additional engine and thought it a great idea.
