Hey all
I've got another riddle for you to solve
I've been looking in the forums about dependencies and it seems lots of people have some problems with this. I was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers on how to best set it up in my environment.
This is the current situation: We are a firm that has multiple clients where we do the it support for. 1 of our products is to monitor their IT environment. For this, we have 9 types of alerts setup
standard disk monitor
standard interface monitor
standard node monitor
silver disk monitor
silver interface monitor
silver node monitor
gold disk monitor
gold interface monitor
gold node monitor
Each client has a custom property that says if they are gold silver or standard. Depending on this status, alerts will be send to our office or our 24/7 helpdesk. The problem we have now is the same as in this post: For example if we monitor 1 firewall and 10 servers and the firewall is unreachable we get an alert for the firewall which is good, but also for all the servers, which is a bit stupid. What do you guys think is the best workaround. I have been thinking to make an alerting for each customer so I can add an alert suppressing (if firewall is down, don’t alert or something) but then I would have a lot of work creating all these new alerts. Is there a limit on how many alerts you can create? I’ve also read something in this forum about ping dependencies. Would this be a good solution for us?
I also saw a solution for dependencies would be implemented in 2010. Is this included in the next update (because then I can wait a little while longer) or will this be included later this year?
With kind regards
sasuke
