Hi all,
I need to monitor a few servers in my DMZ.
I cannot open more ports , only ssh is allowed.
What I would like to do: install the agent on the server and manually inject the data in the STM server.
Is there a way to do that?
thanks
Gildas
Hi Gildas,
No, this is not possible. You will need to open communication ports between the servers in order for communication to happen.
You may check out Server and Application Monitor's new server agent to see if that would satisfy your use case: SAM 6.2 Beta - Because sometimes you feel like a nut - Part 1
thanks for the answer.
So does it make sense to leave the agent running on my DMZ servers waiting for the ports to be opened ?
I mean, as the port will be opened in a week or so, will I get 1 week data showing up in STM ? or the data polled by the agent are overwriten if not sent to STM server ?
I will add as the feature request the possibility to gather data on a distant server and then inject to STM for analysis . that would be great.
Hi gildas declercq,
Yes, the agent has a rolling buffer, that will discard old data that exceeds the buffer window. When the ports finally open, the agent will send whatever the latest data is in the buffer.
how can I modify the buffer window ?
do you think it would be reasonable to keep data for about 5 days until the ports are open ?
thanx
Yes, you can modify the "Data Window Size" by going to the agent in question and clicking the "Configure" gear icon. When the Configure dialogue opens, select "show advanced fileds" and "*Data Window Size" will show up for each module. Note that the setting is module specific and not agent specific.
Note that increasing this value may have unintended side effects like flooding your main collector with data once the agent comes back online, causing delays collecting from the rest of the environment. This is an advanced setting and it is recommended that you proceed with this only if it is absolutely critical for you to do so.
