If I understand your question you would like to measure the latency from your datacenter to a remote file server.

Have you looked at the APM module?

There are several APM Component Monitors that could do this in varying ways.

Bob, are you looking for the download speed of a file? If so, you can use the Download Speed Monitor in Orion APM.
