Execute External Program will not fire

I am having problems getting an advanced alert to execute an external program (.bat file). When I test the alert it appears to fire but the program never executes. The program will launch if I use a basic alert, but I need the action to be delayed 20 minutes. Is anyone else having this problem or know of a work around?

Have you set the Alert Engine service to interact with the desktop in the service manager?

Administrative Tools -> Services

Double click on SolarWinds Alerting Engine

Select Log On tab.

Check the box that says "Allow service to interact with desktop"

Then restart your service.

Opened a ticket on the issue. The execute external program will launch a process but it will never complete or show up except in Task Manager. We have tried different batch files from simple to complex and even calc.exe but with no luck on the advanced alerts.The basic alert still works fine with the batch files as well as calc.exe.

That's all it needed to let the program run. I can now see calc when the program is called and the batch file runs correctly and the process terminates as it should. Thank you, thats the fastest I've had a fix for Orion yet.

Stupid question, but does this still apply if no one is logged into the server?
