Servers that often hit high CPU

I am interested in how users of NPM configure monitoring for high CPU on servers that can run hot often. For example some reporting servers may run very high CPU as a norm when they are creating weekly reports on Fridays. I want to be able to alert on servers that do not normally run hot, while avoiding alerts that require no action from the Administrators as this high CPU for this particular server is completely normal for periods of time. Obviously I do want the alert if the CPU stays high for a defined amount of time.
