Using a node custom property in an application alert

I think I know the answer to this question, but I want to make sure I am not missing something.

I have a node property named "Alert_Email" assigned to each node. In the node status alert trigger email action, I reference the value of that field in the To: field. However, when I try to use that same custom property in the Application status alert, the action will not execute. Is that because I am referencing a node property in an application alert?

Does anyone know how to configure Application alerts to be "smart" in who gets emailed based on what node the down application is on?

You can prefix your custom property variable with 'Node.' so that it reads 'Node.Alert_Email'.
