Volume Space Available

I need confirmation for an alert setting. If I want to set an alert for the Volume space available is that information in bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes?

I'm thinking it's in bytes so If I wanted my alert to notify me when I have less than 10GB remaining it would need to read Volume space available is less than or equal to 10737418240 Is this correct?

Percentages simply are not a good option for some of the devices I'm working with as we have virtual machines with volume sizes in the mutliple terabyte ranges. I have one that is at 97% utilized right now but has about 80GB free.

The problem is the custom property integer type is can't contain above 2GB when specified as bytes. So, I use megabytes for that field and then use a custom SQL alert for volumes.

I have two alerts - one is a 5GB default for all volumes that don't have a specified minimum free space, and another for those that have the minimum free space specified in a custom property.

For the alert emails, they contain... *** WARNING: ${Node.Site_Name}: ${NodeName} ${SQL:Select Substring ('${Caption}',1,2) AS Caption} Free Space ${VolumeSpaceAvailable} [min=${Minimum_Free_MB}MB]

Free Space: ${VolumeSpaceAvailable}
Criteria: ${AlertName} < ${Minimum_Free_MB}MB
Volume: ${Caption}

${VolumeSpaceAvailable} automatically states the size in a human-readable manner.

Ok......so I found my own answer to this by looking at the information directly in the database. The number is in bytes so if I want to set 10GB as my threshold I need to take 10*1024^3 to get that number.

Second part of my problem. On the alert email that goes out the teams want to know the actual disk space left available...How can I get the alert to convert bytes to GB? Is there a way to accomplish this?

Oh...guess I could have tried it first I assumed since it was in the DB as such that variable would output the same. Thanks I'll test that.

I found this out the hard way initially....Luckily however all of our servers are classified as either Large or Small volumes and I have set threshold for each regardless....So if a large volume has 1 TB or 10 TB the minimum alert level is still 10GB. Originally I was trying to do it with the custom property integer but I found the same issue I couldn't go as high as the 10GB I needed nor did I know how to convert it from bytes to gigabytes.
