Restart service based on file monitor script

Question

Is it possible, using the file monitor script to have the alert restart a service?  So if the file monitor script detects a file count greater than the threshold that I set, I want the alert to restart a specific service.  I know that I can have the script restart the service, but I would like to keep the script generic and have the alert perform that function.

yea... but how would I automatically choose the ID?

for example I am monitoring something unrelated to the service and then I want to restart the service "ABC", how would I go at it by just knowing the service name?

Assuming you have APM, there is a bundled application called APMServiceControl.exe. You would use the alert action Execute an external program to launch this application and pass the component ID of the application component. You can find more information in  the APM admin guide under the section titled Restarting Windows Services with an Alert Action (page 51 of the latest version of the guide).
