check_ntp nagios script integration with APM

Hello,

Currently we using nagios check_ntp script to monitor time offset. But i am planing to integrate it in Orion APM. I when through APM administrator guide and i found Linux/Unix scripts. But it doesn't working. FYI check_ntp isn't script, Its C executable binary file.

Also in my template it not showing warning and critical configuration box. any idea?

Yes, the command is executed on the targer Linux/Unix server (where your application is assigned to), so it compares the time between this server and server provided in parameter.

Hello,

Please try following:

1) Use "Nagios Script Monitor" (new in APM 4.2) instead of "Linux/Unix Script Monitor". The Nagios Script Monitor works very similar to Linux/Unix Script Monitor but it can parse Nagios output format.

2) The command line should contain path to your binnary file with parameters. You can leave the Body blank or with some spaces (as workaround for validators).

3) You have to generate the output variables by clicking on "Get script output" button before using the monitor. You have to set up the target node where your check_ntp application works. You should see that two variables are generated for your application: offset and jitter

4) Submit your template and then you can create new application by assigning the node and credentials.

One more question is how ntp check. I meant On template my command line is following. This means check_ntp_time command will compare time against local system ? or i should change it to NTP server ip address?

Hello,

The Nagios Script Monitor works following way:

1) Connects to target machine using SSH (the machine where is application is assigned to).

2) Executes "/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_ntp_time -H localhost" command.

3) Reads the text from standard output and returns it to Orion.

4) Closes the SSH connection.

5) Text output is parsed and saved to database.

So check_ntp_time checks the time against local system on the target machine.

That mean i should use following command. replace localhost with NTP server. because this script will copy over the server and run this command from there and compare time between ntpserver and my localhost right ?
