Guys, is there any way to show hostnames on your mannaged ip addresses on IPAM?
Geir,
the dns name is being resolved to the HostName field, but when you have SNMP scanning enabled for the subnet, and you have SNMP credentials for the devices on it, the System Name is being filled from the device SNMP system name.
It is just a different column, not to mix with DNS responses. When you check online demo link mentioned earlier, you can enable System Name field to see that.

In IPAM 3.0 you can display Hostname column in the list of IP Addresses - see IPAM online demo.
I do know that actually, just that there are some that doesnt show and that are my concern.. sorry that i didnt make mysefl clear
Please try to run following command from the IPAM server for one of those IP addresses without hostname:
ping -a IPaddress
If you get correct reply (including hostname), then open a support ticket.
Thanks
Jan
That command works beatifully, but unfortuantely enough the hostname arent appearing despite in the condition od "used". Do you mind if you can put some links here for my further reference? Your help is greatly appreciated!
Sorry, which links do you mean?
Make sure the addresses are in DNS and add those DNS servers into Advanced TCP/IP Settings on your Solarwinds server.
Shouldn't snmp be able to read the hostname and update the IPAM 3.0?
Our switches are not in our DNS, so for us it would be best that an snmp scan could read the hostname and update the IPAM.
IPAM uses DNS resolution as a primary tool for getting hostname. You may go ahead and create a feature request on our Ideation page.
thanks,
Michal
Thank you!
