TFTP Server - Run as a service

I am evaluating Orion NCM with the 30 day trail. I would like the TFTP Server to run as a service. I have been looking in the documentation and on Thwack. I see posts and info in the doc saying that the capability is there but I have yet to find the steps to configure the tftp server to run as a service. As other people have stated; I would also like to be able to run scripts automatically without having to log in and start the TFTP-Server. How do I configure the TFTP-Server to run as a service?

If you click File -> Configure then click the Server Bindings tab, you can specify which addresses to listen on. By default, it listens on all of them. Does this help?

You shouldn't need to run TFTP as a service or start it manually. When a config transfer via TFTP is initiated, NCM should automatically startup the TFTP server for the transfer.

Thank you for your response. I tried to run a command script that did a tftp transfer and the transfer timed out until I manually started the tftp server. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Ah, right. What I described only applies if the config transfer is initiated by the standard NCM config upload and download operations. If you run a script, NCM doesn't know that you're trying to initiate a TFTP transfer.

Is there a reason why you aren't using the standard NCM transfer operation for downloading configs? If you go to device tree and edit a device, you'll notice under the Communication category, there are drop-downs for "Transfer Configs Using:".

NCM supports downloading and uploading configs using SSH, Telnet, and TFTP.

If you still have needs to run a TFTP server as a service, let me know and I can walk you through those steps.

The issue is that it is not a config. It is the backup of a user database from an Aruba controller. This could also be the case with other devices. I am looking at NCM because I would like an easy to use tool that can execute these command scripts on devices to back up things such as this. I am hopeful that we can use NCM to backup F5 ucs backups. Thank you!

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I'd recommend downloading our free TFTP server which runs as a service and installing that on your NCM server.

Regarding the F5 ucs backups, it's important to note that NCM device support is based on extensible device command templates. For devices not supported out of the box, NCM includes the ability to extend the default device support by creating or modifying device command templates.

Here's an link to an F5 device template I created a while back for saving ucs backups. By downloading it through the standard download operation, it becomes accessible to change reporting and visible in the device tree.

Thank you for the information. If I download the free version and install it on the NCM server, will it conflict with version that was installed with NCM?

I'm running NCM 5.5.2 and we need to have TFTP running as a service. Can you walk me through the recommended configuration process so it won't cause any issues with NCM's occasional use?
