Alert Trigger/Reset Wait Times

I have set up an alerts to for volume utilization and CPU utilization. The trigger of either is when over 95%. Once the alert is triggered I have placed a 15 minute hold on tigger action.

The reset trigger is anything less then 90%. I have a 2 minute hold on the reset actions.

My problem is I never get Alerts(trigger actions) but only resets. Is this because of the wait times?

My limited understand of this issues is as follows:

The trigger takes place...it continues to hold for 15 minutes. While the trigger is in a holding state Orion is checking every minute if the condition still exists. Let's just say that 12 minutes into the trigger Orion finds that the condition is no longer true and the reset condition is now infact true. This starts the reset trigger wait of 2 minutes. 2 minutes into the reset wait time it fires off the alert.

In this scenario no trigger alert was fired because the 15 minute window was not complete.

Is there a way to prevent resets actions that do not have a trigger action associated with them. To me there is no reason to send a reset unless you have a trigger as well. I could get around this by diabling the reset, but then in a legitimate trigger/reset where the 15 minute window was achieved i would not know when the reset has taken place.

I know this is very convoluted post but its really difficult to explain. If you have questions please post back. I would like to fix this ASAP.

If you use the Trigger Condition delay, NPM will see that the condition exists but won't do anything at all until it exists for the number of minutes specified. After that number of minutes, it will trigger the alert/reset process. So you would not have any indication that the condition exists/existed at all unless it existed for that number of minutes.

I never delay resets, and I never use reset conditions other than the one that says "the condition no longer exists". I'm sure those options are useful but I have no need for them... yet.

If know what you mean because I recently set up some alerts in a similar fashion as yours. After getting a few "reset" emails without having gotten "alert" emails, I ended up using the "delay" at the bottom of the Trigger Condition tab rather than delaying the alert action. This way no alert is triggered at all unless the condition exists for x number of minutes.

The only problem I can see arising from this setup is no timestamp of when the problem actually started. If this were an issue for us, I would simply set up an identical alert with no delay that writes to the event log when triggered and reset.

This seems like a great solution except if the Trigger action becomes false and a reset occurs will the Trigger action that is on hold for 15 minutes be canceled or will it still fire?

I guess if I put it into words. I only want to get Trigger/Reset alerts on Alert Conditions that have lasted for longer then 15 minutes, but I want the rest alert as soon as the Reset Condition is true after the Trigger condition has been true for 15 minutes, and has alerted me.

I want to have a Trigger/Reset for each time the trigger condition is true for 15 minutes but not less then 15 minutes.

Ugg...so confusing ...help, I'm drowing in my own logic.

Okay, i am hoping someone can help me with my problem, my brother got ahold of my ipod for a few months n kept guessing my combination, well now it will take 2 years for it to re unlock , anyway to reset that timer?
