Custom Property Export - details not the nodes!

I need to export my custom properties and their values so we can import them into multiple SolarWinds instances we have. I don't want the node data, just the custom property and say the dropdowns etc within them.

The export feature wants to export all the nodes and their custom properties.

Any ideas how to get only the CPs out?

Hey @lufffunk,

The built-in Export feature under Manage Custom Properties is designed around node-to-value assignments rather than schema/definition templating, which is why it always pulls down your node inventory along with the properties.

Depending on how many properties and instances you're working with, here are the best ways to get just the definitions and dropdown values out:

1. Using SWQL / Orion SDK (PowerShell) – Best for Automation

If you have the GitHub - solarwinds/OrionSDK: SDK for the SolarWinds Orion platform, including tools, documentation, and samples in PowerShell, C#, Go, Perl, and Java. installed, you can query the metadata directly via SWQL:

From there, you can pipe the output into a PowerShell script to create them on your target instances via SWIS verbs.

2. Direct SQL Query (On-Prem Orion Database)

If you have access to SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), you can query the underlying metadata tables directly from the Orion database to extract the definitions and enum values:

3. Manual Re-creation (For Small Sets)

If you only have a few properties with dropdown lists, recreating them manually under Settings > Manage Custom Properties > Add Custom Property on each instance is often much faster than building out an SDK script.
