Custom Node Availability Filtered on Node Group

I have created a group named "All Network Nodes" and placed all my switches, routers, and firewalls in it. I Then went to the canned report Node Availability - Last Month and duplicated it so I can edit it. I now want the duplicated report to filter and only show nodes that are members of my "All Network Nodes" group. I have tried several ways to do this and keep getting errors. Any suggestions on how to build the query?

Just as @cnorborg says - create and use custom properties. They are a mini powerhouse behind Solarwinds, and once I'd got my head around what they were and what I could do with them, then we were flying.

But we do just what you want to do using a custom property we called 'ResponsibleTeam' and its properties were things like networks, servers, SAN, and so on.

Ok, not confusing at all, having a group named "All Network Nodes", doubt that's anywhere else in Orion! ;-)

First, the easy way. Create a custom property that will mirror this group and use that instead. :-) There are ways you can have it mirror it by creating an alert to set the custom property if it isn't already set, but easiest if you use Custom Properties instead of groups. I wish it wasn't that way, but… I'd make it something like "AllNetworkNodes" and make it either true or false.

If you do that, then click on the DataSource for that report, which should be called "All Nodes" and edit it

Here it will show you the query in the dynamic query builder. You can't do what you want with the "Basic Selector", or at least I don't know how, so click on the "Advanced Selector". Then click on "Add Condition" and "Select field". Here you want to scroll down to the "Nodes Custom Properties" section, which should be down quite a way. Here you will find your Custom Properties for nodes, you'd be looking for and it should be pretty simple from there.

If you insist on doing it the harder way, you'll need to craft an SWQL or SQL query to do what you want. Groups are in the Orion.Container* tables in SWQL. So, instead of using the nice dynamic query builder above, you would choose the "Advanced Database Query (SQL, SWQL). Then, you do something like this, but with the fields you want:

SELECT NodeID, Caption
FROM Orion.Nodes N
JOIN Orion.ContainerMembers CM ON (CM.MemberPrimaryID = N.NodeID)
WHERE (CM.Container.Name = 'All Network Nodes')

This only returns the NodeID and Caption as you can see. It should look something like this.
