SolarWinds Alerting – Different Email Actions for Critical vs Non-Critical Devices

We are currently configuring SolarWinds alerts and need assistance. Our requirement is to create two device groups: Critical and Non-Critical.

• For critical devices: if any device goes down, alerts should be sent to Email A and B.
• For non-critical devices: if any device goes down, alerts should be sent to Email B and C.

We have tried multiple configuration options but have not achieved the desired behavior.

If anyone has implemented a similar setup, please share your experience or recommended approach.

I would create a custom property to manage the two groups, with Critical vs non-critical. Then I would create email distribution lists, that contains the required recipients, naming the DLs like "critical.alert@company.com"

Then on the alert rules, configure the email action to send the emails to an address built up by the variable for the alerting DL groups. For example "${node.customproperty.alertgroup}.alert@company.com".

With that, you get dynamic grouping, dynamic email addresses. If you want another group, just add one more without changing the alert groups.
