Creating and edit Intelligent Maps questions.

Hi Team,

We are currently migrating from Network Atlas Maps to Intelligent Maps and have a few questions.

When using Network Atlas, I was able to add a link between hosts and assign an object (such as an interface) to that link. However, in Intelligent Maps, there does not appear to be an option to do this. Instead, it seems that I need to add the link as an object and then connect it to the end hosts with lines. Is there a way to achieve the same functionality as in Network Atlas?

In addition, there does not seem to be a way to have links automatically change color based on their status, as they did in Network Atlas. Previously, I could configure a link to display as green when it was up and automatically change to red when it went down. I tested this in a new Intelligent Map, but the link color did not change when the connection status changed.

I have reviewed the documentation but have not found any information addressing these scenarios.

Could someone please advise whether this functionality is available in Intelligent Maps and, if so, how it can be configured?

This new platform feels extremely not polished.

Oh, and don't get me started on the woes of the "new" mapping setup. I've shouted long and loud about it, and a lot of my suggestions have now been implemented but sadly not all.

it works for 1 way but the other way creates a 2 way link.

And one of the reasons I never add interfaces to any of my maps.

you assign "Egress" or "Ingress",

You only need to assign egress and ingress when you create a link to a node that you do not monitor. Such as a WAN link. See my screenshot where the left hand side does not have an node to link with, but in this case it is just an image of a cloud…

Essentially so long as one is in and one out it doesn't really matter, but for me Ingress (In) was always on the side that doesn't have something I can monitor, in this case the ISP side and Egress (Exit) on the LAN side, or the side I can monitor.

This "one-way" link will still have the double headed arrow. That is, I guess, a design choice bt Solarwinds.

The link you can't delete is probably an auto-connection and probably one of the most frustrating aspects of the newer style maps. With nothing selected, you should see this menu on the right:

Expand 'Connections' and start deselecting the options that seem appropriate. There are times I have had to create maps with no auto-links because they are just plain wrong, or silly, and I end up using only 'manually created connections'.

But before you do, select the link again you want to delete and on the right it will show all the interfaces that make up that link. In my ISP link above it is only the one interface, but it will still look like this:

Rather than trying to delete it, click on the eye symbol.

This is also useful when you have multiple links, for eg a port-channel and its members. You would want the port channel and not the individual members to be the one visible for the speed. And that's how you do that.

Thanks for the reply.

A couple of questions that I have and I am not sure if you can help me.

When you add a link between the objects, you assign "Egress" or "Ingress", but when you place it in the map, you don't see the direction of the arrows changing. Just by looking at it, how can I know if it's egress or ingress?

Also, when I want to delete a link, I click on the link, and on the right side it shows me a bar with all the links very collapsed. How can I know what link is the one I have selected on that list? I noticed that is not always the first or the last on the list and end up deleting other links.

Lastly, when you add an interface as an object, and then link it as a "middle" of  connection, it works  for 1 way but the other way creates a 2 way link.
