WAN Links Monitoring

I am currently exploring options to implement WAN link monitoring using Performance SLA (IPSLA-based monitoring) in SolarWinds.

Has anyone in the community set up a similar solution for monitoring internet/WAN links? I would appreciate it if you could share your experience, best practices, or any recommended approach.

Additionally, if there are better or more effective methods within SolarWinds for monitoring WAN/Internet link performance (such as latency, packet loss, jitter, or failover visibility), please feel free to suggest.

Not sure if there is a better way and would also be interested. The problem i was facing: Example is that you have 2 distinct locations and a data circuit between the two. The provider of the data circuit has their equipment at each location. You equipment (Switch A) at (Location A) connected to Provider's equipment at (location A). The circuit exists between providers equipment at (A) and (B). Then provider's equipment at (location B) connects to (Switch B).

You are monitoring both Switch A and B and the interfaces on A & B connecting to the provider equipment at both locations. The provider has an issue and the circuit goes down, but the connections to the provider equipment remain up. SolarWinds never sees a failure as non of the interfaces drop and the connection still shows green on a map.

By using an IP SLA you can see that traffic has stopped and the SLA has failed. On the map is shows failed as well. and you can alert on the failed SLA.
