Link label metrics on an intelligent map

I have a link displayed on an intelligent map. One half of the link is green and displaying bandwidth and utilization in the label, while the other half of the link is displaying yellow and is showing the errors/discards in the label.

Are the errors/discards being displayed because that is the metric that is causing the link to be in warning status?

Is there any way to make both sides of the link display the same metric?

So, you want them both to be bad, or both to be good? You should note that there is a couple arrows in the middle of the link, pointing at each other. These are signifying that one side of the link is outbound from one interface, while the other side is showing outbound on the other side of the link. Neither interface really has anything to do with the other, beyond the fact that they're connected together. The inbound traffic on a link is usually rather boring, because any traffic that was dropped outbound on the other side of the link never makes it to the inbound side. You never have an inbound links saying "Whoa, you're trying to send me too much traffic on this link!". However, the other side might get overwhelmed by the amount of traffic that wants to get on the link in a short period of time, so what does it do? It drops it and throws an error, probably sends the error back to allow the originator to back off on the traffic. Does the destination switch see the dropped packet or error? No, it just thinks everything is fine.

Inbound traffic is usually fine because everything was handled on the outbound link on the other side! There could be some physical errors on the line that would produce an error here, but…

But, to answer your question, I don't see any way to get the two sides to always agree. The bigger question might be why do you want it this way? Seems like your masking issues by doing so?

Now, if you're ok with everything being green all the time and masking issues, you could try going into "Settings / All Settings", click on NPM Threshold and adjust the values for the Interface Errors and Discards, and set them up as high as they can go, I think 50,000. That way you greatly reduce the chance of these setting off the errors for all links. Or, you could go and edit the individual interfaces, and "Override" the threshold settings for the interface there and set them to 50,000 for errors and discards. And, while this might work to make more things green, not sure I'd recommend it!!
