Hi everyone,
I am looking for some community guidance and shared experiences regarding monitoring a NetApp MetroCluster setup using SolarWinds Storage Resource Monitor (SRM).
We want to ensure we have robust visibility into the MetroCluster connection status and replication health between the nodes/sites. Ideally, we need SolarWinds to alert us immediately if an inter-cluster switch link degrades, if a storage failover partnership is at risk, or if the sync state changes.
For those of you using SolarWinds SRM with NetApp ONTAP, I’d love to know:
- Native SRM Capabilities: Does SolarWinds SRM natively surface the MetroCluster replication relationships and connection health out-of-the-box when polling via the ONTAP REST API? Or do you find it only shows standard volume-level replication?
- Polling Methods: Are you adding the clusters directly to SolarWinds SRM, or are you pulling the data through Active IQ Unified Manager (AIQUM) as a provider? Which method gives better visibility into connection drops?
- Supplementing with SAM/NPM: Have you had to supplement SolarWinds SRM with custom SNMP traps, UnDPs (Universal Device Pollers), or API pollers in SAM to catch specific MetroCluster connection alerts (like
metrocluster.status.insufficient.hw or connection mirror drops)?
If you have built any custom dashboards or alert triggers specifically for NetApp MetroCluster health within the Orion platform, I would be incredibly grateful if you could share your approach.
Thanks in advance!
