unable to get the file name from firmware storage in SolarWinds

while pushing the configuration from direct NCM script its working fine but when i tried to do it from the firmware upgrade template then its not working.

Getting error "unable to get the file name from firmware storage in solarwinds"

Can anyone help me to resolve this issue

So, the whole firmware process is rather confusing. First, you have to set up a firmware repository, which should be a network drive. This is under "Firmware Upgrade Settings" and "Path to firmware upgrade network share". You have to use a username and password that works. Be sure to validate this. This should NOT be the same location that the files will be downloaded from.

Then, under the "Firmware Repository" settings, you need to add the individual firmware files that will be used in the upgrades.

Then, finally, under "Firmware Upgrade Templates", you should give the location of where the files will be downloaded from. This should be the local solarwinds SCP/SFTP server. When Solarwinds is ready to send the file, it will copy it from the first location to the local server download directory. There SHOULD NOT already be a file of the same name there. At that point, it will initiate the download and once done, delete the file from that location.

Why does it do it this way? That's so no matter which polling engine it will be downloading from, the file will be copied there and then downloaded from. So, if you have an HA system that's failed over to the secondary, it works. Or, if you moved something from one polling engine to another, it works. The problem with this approach? Its so convoluted it's not only difficult to get working, so it rarely works!! 😲😀

I would really love it if Solarwinds would simplify this approach. Allow you to use any repository you want, and to allow you to simply put the files there ahead of time, so you don't run into a conflict when working with this…
