User Device Tracker - Getting Started when you are already running Solarwinds

Question

We upgraded from Modular to Observability and I am looking to get User Device Tracker setup and I cannot get any of my AD Admin Credentials to work.

Are there any documents that exist for users that went from Modular to Observability and how to setup UDT?  The Lab I setup worked but now I cannot get anything to authenticate against any AD.

Funny thing is all of the nodes are already in Solarwinds so I figured getting them into UDT would be easy.

If you go to a Node > Properties after Custom Properties for the node you will find Active Directory Domain Controller.  This will bring users into UDT.

There should be logging on the AD controller that tells you why your credentials are failing?   I've found quite often when dealing with AD, its the username format that I get wrong, not the password.   Also, don't give Solarwinds admin credentials on your AD controller.  All it needs is "Event Log Reader" permissions I believe.

That being said, doing this has nothing to do with actually getting much data into UDT.  This is the very last part that associates your username with an IP address.  First you have to get your "Ports" into the database, and then getting your routers into it correctly.

You can do the ports through "Manage Ports" in UDT settings, but that takes quite some time.  It's much easier to do a network discovery, and while going through the steps you should see one both for "Interfaces" and another for "Ports", they look similar, but "Interfaces" is for NPM, while "Ports" is for UDT.   While NPM Interfaces might need very few interfaces in NPM, you really need most or all of your ports in UDT.  Not just ones that are "Up" for instance.  If someone hooks into a previously unused port, UDT wants to know about it.   You don't need to do your trunks in UDT, but it doesn't hurt much.

Once you have all your ports in UDT, you should be able to search by MAC address.   Then, after you get your routers in, you can also search by IP address.   Finally, after you get your AD server integrated, you should then be able to search by Username.
