Important alarms and alerts

I'm having to revisit what alarms and alerts i should pay attention to. What would you say are a must alarms, notifications, and alerts for monitoring the network using Observability platform and what are the difference in your point of view. As of now, I'm getting email notifications that tell me when a device is down, when the backup is successful, and if there were any changes detected which i think is good but i was told perhaps its too many notifications and we should consider only the important ones.

Also so what is the best way to clear alerts or trigger instances. Should i be acknowledging and clearing trigger instance? Does that mean i clear the alert? Do i still get the email?

What alert that are important for you organization is up to you. But I do recommend that you disable alert rules that you are not interested in. To many alerts will hinder you to see the important once.

When an alert comes in, and you take responsibility of the alert, I suggest that you acknowledge the alert. That way your colleges know that someone is working with the problem. You can also filter the view to only display the un-acknowledged alerts.

When the issue is resolved, the active alert is cleared automatically. For some alerts, there are no resolved condition, then you have to manually clear the alert. But for most you don't have to.

Is it in the Alert rule where i set a work time before the email goes out?

Most times, that's where you set the work time.

You can set the amount of time a metric has to be critical, for example, before an alert is triggered
You can set during what time of day the alert should trigger
You can set during what time of day each action should be triggered
