Single node always loads wrong Summary view — Views by Device Type times out

Hi all,

I’m on SolarWinds 2025.x and have one PDU node (Geist) that will not use the custom Node Details view I created. Most nodes my team works with are Cisco devices, so our team Summary view normally makes sense — but for this one PDU, I need a different view.

The problem:
This node always loads our team’s Summary view:

Network Team – Geist IMD3 – Summary

No matter how I open it.

The correct view only loads if I manually force the ViewID:

/Orion/NetPerfMon/NodeDetails.aspx?NetObject=N:14666&ViewID=484

What I’ve tried

Added View Limitation by Manufacturer (Geist Manufacturing)
Machine Type is correct
Changing Device Category doesn’t help

Still always loads the wrong Summary view.

Main issue

The page that should control this:

Settings → Views by Device Type

…never loads. It just times out with:

System.Web.HttpException: Request timed out.

So I can’t adjust or clear the device‑type → view assignment for this one node.

Looking for

Has anyone seen ViewsByDeviceType.aspx timing out in 2025.x and causing a node to get stuck on the wrong Summary view?
Any UI‑only workaround to reset the view mapping for a single device?

I do not have server/SWQL access.

We are currently on 2025.2 and had a SolarWinds ticket about 'View by Device Type' and not able to open that page, same error you mention. What follows is the support response.

It's a known issue.

The issue is caused by an inefficient internal SWIS query used by the legacy Views by Device Type page.

The query retrieves:

All columns from the Nodes table
All NodeCustomProperties
All NodeSettings
Additional joined metadata

…and then sorts the results by a non-indexed column.

This results in:

Very large datasets being returned
Slow server-side processing
Long query execution times
Timeouts before the page finishes loading

Because this logic is part of an internal shared component used across the platform, the issue cannot be addressed through configuration changes.This issue is more commonly encountered in environments with large device counts or extensive use of custom properties.

Resolution

As of November 26, 2025, there is no permanent fix or supported workaround for this issue.

SolarWinds Development has confirmed this behavior as a product defect, and work is already in progress to address it.

Because the problem stems from an inefficient internal query used by the legacy page, resolving it requires a code change and redesign of how the page retrieves data.

A fix will be delivered in a future product release and will be documented in the official Release Notes once available.

Sukatan, if you haven't already, open a ticket, upload the diagnostics and post the ticket number here.

Make sure capture diagnostics shortly after you click View by Device Type and experience the issue.
