Hello SolarWinds newbie here

I've been tasked with updating our current Solarwinds ver 2020.2.6 in our VM enviroment

I've created a new Server (2025) and have installed Solarwinds Ver 2024 version

Is there a way of importing everything from the original setup to this test setup

your post doesnt have much detail but im assuming due to the version you are on you having to upgrade SQL Server version and thats the reason for the new server?

you would need to perform a backup of the database then import to the new SQL Server Version.

You may be able to just point your exisiting application server to the new database server. Unless you are also upgrading the OS on the app server, if so you would need to build a new server and preferably take the hostname and ip of the old app server to minimise additional work.

Hi DoDo123

Yes the SQL Server is version 2014, hence the new Server… The problem I'm struggling with is seeing the DB's on the new SQL Server - I have imported them on the new SSMS 2022 But where do I get Orion to point to them after I have installed the software on the new Server2025

Run the Config Wizard on your new primary poller. Assuming you've copied the old DBs to their default locations on the new SQL server then the config wizard should pick them up. The 'Migrate' link dodo123 posted is worth reading too. Using the same hostname as the old server is recommended.

You shouldn't have an issue with a DB from 2020.2.6 - it's the earliest version that will jump directly to 2024.4. When I upgraded our production environment a few years ago we did the same leap and it was fine.

I would recommend to do one task at a time, either you upgrade the Orion first with the old DB or migrate the DB to a new SQL server and then upgrade the Orion. For both task, in between, you need to run the Config Wizard.
