APC UPS polling and views

Hey guys I feel like I'm going in circles here. I'm trying to display and view apc ups data in npm, I have added the smart ups poller to solarwinds platform universal device poller. This is working and i can see it pulling data, but this data isnt in the web console, well sorta. The manage poller page does not show this smart ups poller anywhere. I can see the info in the power control widget but that's it.

Am i doing something wrong? I just want a UPS page that shows info with gauges and tables.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @pcheh

For most APC UPS devices, you shouldn't be needing to create Universal Device Pollers, UnDP, as APC is supported out of the box. You should be able to see info like this:

A "list resources" on the UPS should give you a box to tick for these metrics.

If you still need some UnDP's, you have to also add the widgets that shows the UnDP data to your dashboards. One way of doing that is described here: https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-viewing-universal-device-poller-statistics-sw755.htm

Otherwise, just add some of the "Universal Device Poller" widgets that are available, configure it to show the values you want. UnDP's with Get Next and Get Table will need different types of widgets. Sometimes, a custom SWQL query is better also.

I was able to stumble through it and was able to create this view.

All the info was there it was just very hard to bring it all together.

Im having a really hard time figuring out how to create custom views. I created a new view for my switches called Switch summary - Switch Details but i cant seem to get it to come up on the left nav of switches, i had the same issue with the ups view i made but some how got that one to show.

Any cluse as to whats going on?

About the views, are we talking about "Summary Views", with information from several devices, or "Node details views", with data from a single device?

You are talking about "left nav of switches", so I am assuming you mean node details pages. There is one "default node details view" and several "device type specific views" (All Settings/Views by device type). On this page you may choose to have one specific view for a certain type of device. Make sure you edit the correct view.

Yes node details for viewing one switch. I have all the default ones showing (and my custom ups one ill have to figure that out). But the custom view i made does not show up. Iv attached pics of the created view and it not showing up.

It wont let me upload the other photo but in the manage dashboards my created Switch Summery-Switch Details page is there.

Am I right in that you have created a new "Switch Summery-Switch Details page" and you want that view to show up in the left-side-navigation? That will not happen unless you go and edit the node details page and add another tab, as you did with the UPS tab.

If it's a completely new node details page, for switches, with potentially several tabs, that you want to appear on certain devices. Go to "All settings/views by device type" and set the view there.
