Cisco 9200 Switch Refusing Connection from SolarWinds

Hi,

I recently upgraded my Cisco 9200 switch to 17.12.5. Since upgrading, the switch is no longer allowing connections from SolarWinds for configuration backups. This version of IOS only allows ETM MAC algorithms and our version of SolarWinds is offering non-ETM MAC algorithms. Does anyone know what version I would need to upgrade SolarWinds to in order to support ETM MAC algorithms?

what is the version of your SolarWinds NCM? ETM MAC algorithms are supported way back 2024 version. the latest version now is 2026.1.

i highly recommend upgrading to the latest or newer versions if you are in the older version of solarwinds.

in case you are in the newer version, i highly recommend creating a support ticket to our sw support geek to check the "weonlydo" component of ncm.

I'm currently on version 2025.2 and have 9200's on 17.12.5 and back them up with no issues.

MAC algo are fully supported. There might be wrong in ncm component. This require further investigation with our sw suppprt geek.

Its impossible you have successful backup if you have Hmac issue.

How can ncm ssh and run back up if ncm cannot ssh to your device.

I highly recommend reporting it to sw support to further check this issue.

Try playing with the SSH server and/or client algorithms. Something like this:

ip ssh server algorithm mac hmac-sha2-256-etm@openssh .com hmac-sha2-512-etm@openssh .com hmac-sha1 hmac-sha2-256 hmac-sha2-512
ip ssh client algorithm mac hmac-sha1 hmac-sha2-256 hmac-sha2-512 hmac-sha2-256-etm@openssh .com hmac-sha2-512-etm@openssh .com
