Service Account Performance for MSSQL Server on EC2 in AWS Cloud

Hello THWACK Community,

We are currently deploying an MSSQL server as an EC2 instance in the AWS Cloud. We are considering using a service account authenticated by our organization's security server instead of a local SQL account.

Does anyone have experience with the performance impacts of using service accounts in this setup? Specifically, We are interested in understanding if there are any noticeable latencies or other performance issues when using a service account for MSSQL on EC2. Any insights or best practices would be greatly appreciated!

It is a plain old Microsoft Active Directory. We are required to user service account to authenticate SQL server access and I am not sure if this will cause performance issue, but I have to agree that a dedicated SQL account perhaps is the best approach.

it work just fine under regular conditions. However when your AD has issues authenticating users, your monitoring system will be affected and most likely won’t inform you of the issues. Other than that, using an AD account for the DB connection has no noticable performance disadvantage
