Automate node management in Solarwinds

We are bringing in Azure Cloud VMs into Solarwinds through Cloud Discovery. We are looking at ways to automatically manage the nodes other than a subnet scan. Has anyone had any experience with automating node management outside of the network sonar discovery?

you can use the API/SDK for adding Nodes

One of our security tools does a great job of finding devices. We scripted our own job that compares the security tools discovery against the Node and Custom Properties tables in the SolarWinds DB and give us a report of missing nodes. We can then use the scripts that @HerrDoktor spoke of to import the nodes based on the type (ICMP, Agent, WMI, SNMP) and fill in the custom properties as well.
