Certificates

Has anyone successfully changed the certificate on the Management Console?

I have found that these two files regenerates if you remove them

Serv-U-DefaultCertificate-Ver.2.crt and Serv-U-DefaultCertificate-Ver.2.key

And my problem is the law and customer demands, so is there a way to change them in order install my own SSL cert and get rid of the warning of self signed certificate (and to be compliance with the law)?

On using a 3rd party Certificate, please follow the below steps:

Generate / create a Self-signed Certificate (Needs to be filled up with the correct data)

Note: if the Serv-U asks if you want to use the Generated file, just click on yes.

a. This will create 3 files (.csr, .crt, and .key)

From the 3 files, the .CSR needs to be submitted to your 3rd party vendor.
The other 2 files, needs to be used on your current configuration (.CRT and .KEY).

After submitting the .CSR file to the 3rd party vendor:

Generate it in “Others” format.
The 3rd party vendor will then give you a new certificate.
The new Certificate (.CRT) would in turn replace the part wherein the Self Signed Certificate (Certificate Path) on the Encryption tab.
If the 3rd party vendor sent out a .PEM file, it goes to the “CA (Certificate Authority) Certificate Path” box.

Please bear in mind that the 3rd party certificate should be in x509 format (.crt/.cer), and Serv-U requires the .crt/.cer file, the .key file, and the password.

NOTE: Serv-U can use a wildcard cert that’s already been generated as evidenced on a post on thwack. However, it will not allow for the creation of a wildcard certificate request or self-signed certificate. The CSR generated from the self-signed certs of Serv-U can’t be used.

But if you want to create a request for a wildcard cert, you would need to use another tool.

Servu does support secure SSL certificates (including wildcard but conditions do apply).
