I have had a tough time getting alerts to work, in the past. In my last post I was able to get a method worked out, but there are some questions I have about the values shown in the UDP and in the Alert in SW.
For instance, in my UDP the values that show up in the UDP test are row ID and a numeric value in columns. The row ID is the SNMP index of the port and the values are a 1 for the port being up and a 2 for down and a 7 for some other state. The OID I was pointing the UDP to was one that showed the interface operational status.
In the Alert, I ended up using the "Interface name " contains " xe-0/2/3" for example and the Custom Interface poller status is "down". Neither of these values are in the OID I used. They are in the table that the OID is part of. Using the Row ID and the numeric values did not work. It was only just trying different conditions and guessing and using test variables in the Trigger Action email that allowed me to get this working.
How can I tell what conditions I should use with a UDP if it's not the ones showing as a result in the OID I point to?
