ABOUT BANCO GALICIA
Founded in 1905, Banco de Galicia y Buenos Aires SAU is one of the leading private banks in the Argentine financial system and is the leading private sector bank. As a universal bank, Banco Galicia offers a wide range of financial services through different related companies and various distribution channels. The bank currently serves 3.5 million customers and has a strong digital presence in the Argentinian market, with almost 2.2 million monthly active users on its digital platforms.
CHALLENGE
Five years ago, Banco Galicia, a key client of 3GLA, began a digital transformation initiative to revolutionize its operations, prioritizing uptime, network speed, and strategic IT infrastructure investments for enhanced performance and service delivery. The bank previously relied on multiple, incompatible software solutions, causing severe management and monitoring challenges.
“They had performance data on one side and traffic on the other,” explains Herman Lang, CEO of 3GLA. “It was all distributed and not integrated.” This lack of unified, full-stack visibility made it difficult to scale resources, address bottlenecks, and ensure consistent application availability. In banking, where rapid changes in elements like exchange rates are critical, even momentary delays can result in significant costs to the business.
With the acceleration of cloud migration, enterprises still value on-prem infrastructure for cost control, data regulation compliance, and supporting AI workloads. Therefore, the bank prioritized a solution that could deliver the on-premises components of hybrid digital ecosystems.
[Typically] in Argentina, the main processes are running on-premises, and the backup processes are running on the cloud. IT management wants the reliability of software that tells them this disparate infrastructure is running well.
SOLUTION
With future scaling in mind, the bank prioritized a flexible solution that seamlessly integrates with existing systems, apps, technologies, and future solutions. They found this in SolarWinds® Hybrid Cloud Observability, which provides an integrated platform across all cloud and on-premises data and workloads, including network traffic performance monitoring. The solution enhances operational predictability by providing cross-domain analytics and actionable intelligence for on-premises and multi-cloud environments.
“SolarWinds is very adaptive to the needs of the clients here in Argentina,” says Lang. Because Banco Galicia was an established SolarWinds customer, the conversion to SolarWinds Hybrid Cloud Observability was frictionless and non-disruptive. Additionally, as a SolarWinds channel sales partner and member of the company’s managed service provider (MSP) program, 3GLA offered additional value by managing and handling the license procurement and implementation on behalf of Banco Galicia, providing additional value and flexibility.
Other advantages that factored into the bank’s decision to adopt SolarWinds Observability include:
- Integration: Consolidating various tools into a single unified solution enables the management of multiple systems, networks, apps, databases, and other components from a single focal point. “The integration is the key,” emphasizes Lang
- Scalability: SolarWinds Hybrid Cloud Observability makes it easy to discover devices—particularly Cisco® devices—and scales smoothly from device discovery to building maps and dashboards.
- Unified system visibility and management: This allows users to deploy, combine, and manage different product suites from a central focal point with single-pane-of-glass visibility across the entire, full-stack ecosystem.
BENEFITS
“There are many, many benefits for us and for the bank,” says Lang, “and the easy deployment of the software saves time and money.” This fast time-to-value provided the bank with an almost immediate return on investment, as the solution offered not only cost savings but additional value through accelerated productivity, increased efficiency, and the freeing up of teams from manual processes. Lang adds, “It’s effortless for Banco Galicia to get alerts on time and deliver tickets in Microsoft Teams. It’s running fast.”
“The bank planned to have a deployment in six months,” says Lang. “And they had 80% of the deployment within three months.” This accelerated deployment allowed the bank to enjoy increased flexibility in utilizing its operational expenditure budget while maintaining a stable environment.
With all departments now accessing the same dataset, the client can more efficiently identify and remediate IT issues. Critical alerts are directly delivered to teams and tailored by 3GLA to ensure relevance and meaningful insights. Additionally, the whiteglove service provided by 3GLA has enabled Banco Galicia to continue its operations seamlessly, propelling the bank further on its digital transformation journey.
NEXT STEPS
On emerging customer and IT challenges, Lang explains: “I think the next challenge we are facing at this time is the approach to entire cloud ecosystems, including both private and public clouds.” Additionally, he highlights the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to “be the tool that helps us gain more time to discover what’s happening in our ecosystems.”
Banco Galicia, meanwhile, is considering expanding beyond monitoring and observability solutions to include IT and storage solutions, covering a broader range of infrastructure components.
This type of case helps and encourages us to focus our movements on developing and increasing our position in the [Managed Service Provider] (MSP) program for other market segments and clients. Observability for IT and OT ecosystems is our goal. — Herman Lang, CEO of 3GLA
