Infosys is a SolarWinds Tier 1 Global System Integrator and partner. They have over 100 SolarWinds Certified Professional® employees and have completed some of the most complex implementations over the last few years.
BUSINESS CHALLENGE
The customer is a large producer and distributor of food and beverages worldwide. Headquartered in the U.S., the company has multiple divisions, with its operations spread across various locations in North and South America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. The company’s large, global IT teams monitors and manages thousands of its existing devices using multiple tools from multiple vendors. The IT teams required additional time and staff hours to identify the root cause of any issue. Some departments and tools worked in complete silos, and the IT teams found it challenging to communicate and collaborate to resolve any issue quickly.
The incumbent monitoring solutions provided the customer with minimal monitoring configuration baselines, workflows, and environmental thresholds. There was also little integration between their monitoring and ITSM tools, and most of their troubleshooting happened in silos without much collaboration between teams. Senior IT leaders found it difficult to have a comprehensive and centralized view of their global infrastructure. They wanted a solution to help them reduce their dependency on multiple tools and vendors and standardize their entire monitoring system—a solution capable of automation and help with faster issue resolution.
SOLUTION
When the customer brought in SolarWinds® Global Systems Integrator (GSI) partner Infosys as experts to assess the problem and recommend a solution, the visibility into their IT environment was limited as it was distributed across different geographies. The customer’s IT teams in the EU, Americas, and APAC regions were monitoring their dispersed infrastructure using four to five solutions from different vendors. The Infosys team conducted an exhaustive study of various monitoring systems and recommended SolarWinds for its intuitive interface, scalability, capability, and flexibility.

SolarWinds and Infosys collaborated to help the customer reduce their reliance on multiple vendors and tools and consolidate their processes. The customer needed an end-to-end observability solution for around 6,000 network devices, servers, and applications. The SolarWinds Hybrid Cloud Observability solution provided the customer visibility into their distributed IT infrastructure environment through a single pane of glass. The customer gained actionable reports and dashboards, creating better visibility into the entire infrastructure. Email-based alerts for servers and network owners were configured for quicker actions, faster issue resolution, and reduced MTTR. The solution addressed their challenges with observability requirements by replacing legacy tools and providing improved end-to-end observability of infrastructure components, such as Infrastructure performance monitoring, server monitoring, database monitoring, application monitoring, application bandwidth monitoring, virtualization, storage monitoring, and VoIP monitoring.
SolarWinds is also integrated with the customer’s existing ITSM tool ServiceNow® including email alerts. This gave their IT team the insight and confidence to know they weren’t missing any alerts, and everything was tracked and logged with the correct owners.
BUSINESS BENEFITS
SolarWinds and Infosys partnered to deliver value in multiple ways to the customer:
- Reduced tool sprawl: Reduced tool sprawl by replacing five old instances with one instance of SolarWinds, which is more easily managed by their IT teams.
- A centralized solution: Deployed/implemented the SolarWinds solution as a centralized tool for field IT and the server management tool for alerting and reports
- Comprehensive dashboard: Facilitated complete visibility of the client’s IT environment in a single pane-of-glass view for the global team.
- Automated capacity planning: Automated the capacity planning process, which was previously done manually, saving 20% in staff hours each month.
- Reduced MTTR: A 20-30% reduction in MTTR due to the automated alert-based emails and incident generation now directly assigned to their respective teams.
- Ticket automation: Automation of tickets using two types of integration—email alerts and ServiceNow Event Management integration
- 100% global infrastructure discovery: Achieved 100% infrastructure discovery from across multiple locations using the SolarWinds solution.
FUTURE ROADMAP
In the project’s next phase, the aim is to expand the SolarWinds scope to include database and log monitoring.
Integration with ServiceNow ITOM will also be expanded to cover Predictive Intelligence for proactive monitoring beyond the current integration with Event Management.
