Depends on the nature of the problem.
So many options missing.
No single answer is correct in all situations
I had to answer other to this one. I use Application Alerting to solve issues when something has gone wrong or is about to. I have used Performance analysis to prevent issues well in advance. Then there is the 'gut feeling' that you just get using experience and looking at all of the information as a complete picture. I wish there was an option for all of the above.
All of the above except Hybrid Cloud Monitoring
Depends on the problem. I have to build OIDs for weird stuff and help customers fix their maps and other pages. There is a lot of stuff we do.
While a lot was missing, perfstack tends to drive through a lot of stuff to isolate many problems.
OIDS for Weird stuff.. LOL, how right you are. I cannot think of a better way to describe custom polling.
Fear and loathing.
google
Yes. Primarily NetPath, but the answer is yes. It's always Network's problem until it isn't Network's problem.
Logs / Log Correlation
my gut!
I use lots of products to help troubleshoot. NPM in general is the one used most.
I depends on what the problem is .
Logic is the beginning of wisdom.
I am troubleshooting hardware and network operations issues without Hybrid Cloud Monitoring. The features noted provide much needed insight into our environment, including communications between application clients and servers, and related network traffic on the network for each. These give us tools to identify issues when troubleshooting problems within our environment.
Agree with @wkwittke and @jklundy but I answered PA because I believe it'd be generally most used from listed options
Depends...
I prefer to wait for the Network Admin to start yelling and screaming. That's when I know everything is really going wrong.
Depends on the issue.
My head.
NetPath has saved my bacon many times!
Depends
Agree, no single answer is correct and you have to try & eliminate possibilities. Solarwinds is a good start when sifting through the issue, but you need infrastructure knowledge/experience to pinpoint the problem.
As others have said, it depends on what the issue is.
NPM
Log files ... event logs, application logs, database logs, etc.
Depends on what's being reported / issues going on. Logs are usually first place checked.
logs... happy reading
