Alerting question....

I want to set up an alert that fires when a node is down for 2 minutes, but what is happinging is its taking 7 min for the for the alert to fire.

trigger rules

alert when all of the following apply

node status is equal to down

the node is being monitored by ICMP

Do you have any delays setup under the Trigger Condition or Alert action? A Node will take 2 minutes from the time it takes from the 1st missed ICMP Poll to the moment that it is marked as down. We will continue to poll the device once every 10 seconds to see if the node is back up.

how long does it take for the alerting engine to see if a node is down and to fire the alert?

What is your alert action? Is it email? Do you also log as an event? If so check the timestamp on the event to see if you are facing any delays with your emails.

The way you have the alert written it will take 2 minutes from the time Solarwinds marks the node as down to trigger the alert.
