And 8Man is "Hachiman" in Japanese anime, since "8 is hachi". Expand one step further: "man" is 10,000 in Japanese, so "Hachiman" is actually 80,000.

And I just noticed, in keeping with the Japanese theme, we have a number "6" (Roku) as the first prize. When I was studying martial arts many, many moons ago, my Senpai had us memorize the numbers 1 to 10 in Japanese so we could count off our stretching time appropriately. Still remember them to this day. Now, much beyond that and "Thank you very much (domo arigato gozaimasu)", I'm out.

I know nothing of Japanese language, but I have a friend who knows it well. She says she likes it because she found it easier to pronounce when it's written in English. Apparently (?) every letter is spoken/pronounced . . . unlike English.

As I have surfed for pleasant and impressive Internet art, I've found some Anime theme songs are occasionally written in English, with the "Mitch Miller bouncing ball" over every syllable, giving me a (too quick) guide to pronunciation of Japanese when it's written in English.

There are wonderful works of art out there. E.g.: Your Lie In April. I'm a musician and can relate to that part of the plot. I'm human with a heart, and therefore am able to relate to the rest.

Many international tongues pronounce every letter, but I think French takes the cake as far as dipthongs go ("eaux" for "o"). Nothing against the French language; I think all the romance languages are like that...just that French seems to take it to the next level!!

My wife and I love going to Hawai'i and the Hawai'ian language is another that pronounces every letter, but it's done so quickly that it sounds like a dipthong (Kauai is actually pronounced "Kah-oo-ah-ee" not "Kuh-why"). My philosophy is that if you are visiting a place where the indigenous people speak another language, why not learn a few words of that language in order to better communicate. I don't speak Spanish fluently but I know enough to ask for a few things I want when we're in Mexico, and the reaction I get from locals is priceless: their faces light up, they smile and we instantly have rapport. I'm somewhat (well, OK, not really) ashamed of saying that we've received a few perks and upgrades because of this. Doesn't happen always, but it does happen.

Now, having said all of that, I also believe that if you come to the USA and are staying to live and work, please learn our language. I'll be happy to learn yours should the situation be reversed. And then there's our neighbors to the North...what IS up with that whole "we say 'Zed' instead of 'Z'" thing, eh? ;-)

damien.solodow, you didn't, by chance, make a screenshot of the pop-up message, did you? I did not, and my eidetic upgrade is still on backorder, but I thought it talked about why the correct/incorrect answer was correct/incorrect. But, as mentioned, still waiting for my memory upgrade...:-P

Retro gaming consoles are cool but I think it's even more fun when you build your own. I've built a standard Raspberry Pi one and also a Pigrrl 2. Fun stuff!

It's not too bad and there's a lot of awesome information on how to put this stuff together. Adafruit has some awesome guides and forums with very helpful folks. You can even buy most (if not all) of the required parts there - sometimes even in kit form. They give you plans for any required 3D printing as well and, if you don't have a printer, they tell you where you can get your stuff printed. You can, of course, also source a lot of printed stuff from Etsy. It really is a lot of fun.
