Statistics for IP SLA IMCP Echo Operation

Hi Guys,

I have a question here with regards to the IPSLA ICMP Echo operation.

I have deployed a 3700 Router (Probe) at a Customer site and am using the Trial Version of NPM with the IPSLA Manager to poll IPSLA results from the Probe.

I have a few operations and all of them are showing me the stats i want to except for the ICMP Echo Operation.

Scenario:

I have configured to probe to initiate ICMP Echos' to a remote server (Non IPSLA device) to test RTT and also to detect packet loss.

Problem:

The operation is working fine and I am getting the results from Orion. However Im only able to see results for RTT.The IP sla stats for this operation tracks the number of sucesses and Failures of the ICMP echo's as well but I'm unable to display it in the Orian IP SLA Manager.

Can someone please advice if it is possible for the Orion IPSLA Mgr to display the number of Success/Failures of the ICMP echo operation ?

cklourdu, UDP Echo operation could work for you as it necessarily doesn't require a responder to operate. You might want to look at configuring the UDP Echo operation manually on your IPSLA capable device, and add the created operation for monitoring in IP SLA Manager. If doing so, please make sure you specify "control disable" option in the command creating the operation, e.g. (depending on the syntax your device uses): # udp-echo control disable [source-ip ] [source-port ]

Thanks for the quick reply.Im trying to get a packet loss statistic between 1 IP SLA probe and a non IP SLA device (Server). Since we cant see ICMP Echo Failures from the NPM.. what other IPSLA operation will NPM be able to display packet loss statistics for?

I would normally use a UDP echo operation, however I only have 1 IPSLA capable device.

For ICMP Echo we only poll, store and display RTT values. Numbers of successes or failures are not available in IPSLAM.
