L2 connections missing on map

Hello

I am requesting your help regarding a question on NTM.

I have discovered my network but it seems that L2 connections are missing.

I do have a "Core" equipement which is directly linked to many others switches but the "discovery map" is showing that the "Core" Equipment is connected to an ICMP equipment (that I do not have) and connections to others switches are showing from this ICMP equipment.

Can someone know why ?

Sorry for the delay and thank you for your messages, I've really appreciated it.

I have found the solution and it was my mistake.

I have discovers that the SNMP community (for the ICMP equipment) was not selected in the network discovery options.

That's why some L2 connections were missing.

I've never gotten any of the solarwinds products to reliably discover all connections between devices. Always seems like it find some but not all connections. I have opened tickets about it in the past and I never get a satisfactory answer. I put in a feature request to be able to manually link devices if it doesnt discover them automatically but who knows if this will ever get fixed.

Sometimes it depends upon your network equipment. We run Force10 switches here and ran into the same issue. Some of the Force10 switches follow the industry standard, but some do not. Those that do now will not properly advertise the connections and thus SolarWinds cannot pull the information.

I went around and around with tickets opened with both SolarWinds and Dell - for several months - Dell finally admitted that they didn't advertise (on certain models) things correctly.

The ability to manually link devices is a well understood feature request denstjames. There are endless reasons for why a user would want to have some sort of manual control, and we need to provide that flexibility. Work on addressing this need is currently underway and we will certainly want to elicit feedback once we have working versions - stay tuned. In the meantime, if you would like to share example screenshots or case numbers from some of the reported issues, I would certainly like to investigate the answers you were provided.
