Cisco Multicast Monitoring MIB Update

Looks like Cisco has done enough changes in the MIB structures that they have adopted specially on the newer platforms that they have launched. Nexus family of switches now do not use the traditional MIB's.

For example, the earlier devices used to support the OID 1.3.6.1.3.60.1.1.1 for ipMRouteEnable but now the latest Nexus devices have the OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.168.1.1 for ipMcastEnabled.

The attached spreadsheet provides a comprehensive list of Multicast MIB's that are required to monitor Multicast on Cisco Nexus devices.

Please incorporate the latest Nexus MIB's into the Solarwinds MIB Database. The last known status of Solarwinds support for Multicast support is fairly outdated.

More details on the Cisco changes -

The RFC2932 RFC 2932 - IPv4 Multicast Routing MIB for IPv4 Multicast Routing MIB is now obsolete. The newer devices like the Cisco Nexus family support the latest RFC5132 RFC 5132 - IP Multicast MIB for IP Multicast MIB.

In our Multicast Monitoring Views, depending on whether we have only old devices or new devices or a combination of old and new, we may need to populate the correct supported OID.

For example -

1.3.6.1.3.60.1.1.2 OID is for ipMRouteTable as per the old RFC whereas the new RFC has 1.3.6.1.2.1.168.1.5 OID for ipMcastRouteTable.

Is there any update on whether we have support for the RFC 5132 - IP Multicast MIB on the Solarwinds Orion platform. This MIB module obsoletes IPMROUTE-STD-MIB defined by RFC 2932 - IPv4 Multicast Routing MIB

This has been long pending and will be very useful for Customer environments that require Multicast monitoring.

We have checked the latest Solarwinds MIB Database and looks like we do have the RFC 5132 MIB OID's updated. However, we will need to add Custom Pollers on the Solarwinds NPM tool to get this information from the device that supports the RFC 5132 MIB.

By way of Custom Pollers and additionally by use of NetFlow Traffic Analysis we can create a custom Dashboard to create a Multicast monitoring page to monitor the Multicast.
